Procedures to Apply for Work and Residence Permit in Saudi Arabia

The subsequent actions are required to obtain a resident permit and a visa for Saudi Arabia:

  • Ministry of the Interior of Saudi Arabia registration is mandatory for the supporting employer.
  • The employer will formally apply for a work visa to the Ministry of Labor in Saudi Arabia.
  • Additionally, upon approval of the application, the Ministry of Labor will inform the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Within two weeks, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will issue a visa authorization number.
  • In addition to the documents enumerated above, the employee shall submit their employment visa application to the relevant Saudi Arabian embassy.
  • The employee will be granted a visa by the embassy within one to three weeks, after which they will be permitted to travel to Saudi Arabia. The employee is required to apply to the Ministry of Labor for an Iqama, or residence visa, in Saudi Arabia.

The Ministry of Labor will transmit the sanctioned application to the Ministry of Interior, which will subsequently have the Directorate General for Passports proceed with the issuance of the Iqama.
